Well i wanted to keep this on the low until i have finish result but since the forums are new and theres not much stuff yet (emphasis on the yet needed) i figured i could post it for your reading pleasure.
so as some of you i have a new dh bike in the works of being built. so far i got this:
frame: 2007 demo 8 the wicked red one with the sexy pin stripping
wheels: mavic dee max wheel set
cassette: shimano xt 11-32
cranks: race face diabolus
derailleur: sram x9
seat post: thomson elite (what else could i use? lol)
still wondering witch headset to use. im pretty sure of getting some avid codes for brakes. trying to keep the build pretty light.
dont have pics yet but when i get acess to a cam it will come. wont build the bike until i get 100% all parts.

Hahaha, you got bit real hard by the DH bug. I'll see if I can help out in any way with more DH fly's ![]()
Nice, I guess we're gonna ride a lot next summer. Can't wait to see your new bike.

Well tire choice is always important. i usually dont like much change especially in tires. im a huge michelin fan but i took the leap for Intense tires as they will be saving a great amount of weigh.
front: 909 - EX DC LITE 2.5
rear: World Cup - EX DC LITE 2.5
i usually ride a 2.8 in front but i think the extra weigh save and the rolling resistance im going to loose will make this bike faster.
all info about these tires can be found on http://www.intensetires.com
they are ordered but i wont get them until a little while so ill let you guys know about my first impression when i get to see them. still not sure if im running tubeless or not yet. i got the rims all id be needing is slime or stans. what do you guys think. is the good old tube still a safer bet?

I haven't tryed Michelins yet but I wouldn't try to save weight with tires. I tried this year and had more flats than ever in my life just in one season. Next season I'm going for Michelins all the way.
I love my Minnions. Dh-F 2.7 front and Dh-r 2.5 rear! It far away then the Kenda's... Michelin , its like steak in my house, its good but don't last long! Ha ha ha

It will be the fastest bike on a work stand !!!!!
I know you're trying to save weight, but I would never run light tires to save weight. My opinion is this....The only flats I've ever had since I started biking again in 2004, were: Once at MSA where I actually cut the sidewall of my rear tire from landing hard on the sharp corner of a rock (it was a big jump
) and then I had another flat a few weeks later with the same tire (I had quickly fixed it with Duct Tape, but it didn't hold very long). Since then, zero flats ! I'd rather a bit more weight than to be changing tires and or tubes all the time. I like DH tires with reinforced sidewalls running 20psi. I love the piece of mind that you get when you never worry about your tires. "Did I get a flat on that last hit?" never crosses my mind.
Tires are the only thing connecting you to the ground! I know you want to keep the weight down, but remember....I will be the one saying "I told you so" every time you get a flat. Ya, I know...I'm evil...

Tony, great advise and I agree with you 100% that tires are not something to save weight on. Towards the last 2 months of the season I asked a lot of questions and did research for tires. I'm pretty much sold on the idea of getting Michelin's for 2008 and have piece of mind. A lot of guy's have complained about the tire life with Michelin's but I have lot's of experience with High speed driving/racing and that's normal. Good rubber compound for traction equals soft rubber and faster wear.
Michelin's here I come. ![]()
Michelin sa coute un bras et sa s'use rapidement! Si vous avez le cash c'est fantastique mais sinon des Minnions sa fait extremement la job! N'acheter jamais les Nevegal! Sinon j'en ai un a vendre...!

those tires are cheap guys. im trying them. no one has really any experience with those, plus since ill be running tubeless and with slime my chances of getting flats are narrowed.
Hors ligne
I saw a lot of people with the Intense tyres. I think you should give them a chance. Are they really cheap?Whats the price?
Hors ligne
My Michelin 32's have very little wear on them, and I've been riding them every weekend at Bromont since July, starting with 3 crazy days at MSA. I only paid $40 each for my Michelin's (I got 3), so they weren't expensive either.
I'm not saying you have to run Michelin's. By all means, try some Intense tires.....Just get the 4 ply ones. They are almost bullet proof. ![]()
Hors ligne
meh those are about 60 bucks retail so im gonna give them a try. if i dont like them im not loosing much. also guys wheels is the best lace to save weight on the bike. thats where you will feel the biggest difference. 1 pound on the wheels feels like 4 on the rest of the bike. also if im running slime the only way i can get a flat is if i rip my sidewall or have a big puncture
Hors ligne
I (we) know that the wheels are where you should save weight because it makes a bigger difference, but if you're getting flats, it's simply not worth it.
For that matter, it would be lighter to just ride a XC bike, but then it would fall apart on the first drop you do.
Hopefully, you'll have some good luck with the slime......
One question....When you dent the rim, will the bead still seal ?

well the headset was supsose to be a chris king but i opted for a race face diabolus. we are trying to promote more raceface products at the shop so i think having a crankset and a headset might help more then just cranks.
Hors ligne
Hey BrokenSpoke, do you know that the Diabolus headset is juste a load of little bearings not even sealed? Im was very unhappy when I saw that on my friends bike.
Hors ligne
to be honest i dont care how it looks or may seem. if it breaks ill get a new one for free for sure. this bike is to promote and test products. since im the only one still dhing at the shop someone needs the role of product tester.
Hors ligne

Another fashion victim.![]()
Hors ligne
no, because it's lighter (with ti bolts) and smaller/slimmer
Hors ligne
I can tell you all that so far it's going to be a hell of a nice set up plus the colors and choice of parts blend so well together. I'm not one to choose how all will look together but this one was soooooooo HOT. ![]()
Hors ligne
it still remains a demo though ![]()
Hors ligne
yeah but believe it or not i wasnt trying to get all colors to blend in. just happened. demo frame will be replaced mid season to try something else. but right now im just anxious to see the rest of the stuff to come. i still need to pick a pair of pedals and a seat.
